Alan Coren

Alan Coren was a British novelist, famous for his satirical and humorous works. He was born on June 27, 1938, in Southgate, London, UK, and grew up with a plumber father and a hairdresser mother. He attended Wadham College, University of Oxford, and graduated with a degree in English.

Coren began his career by publishing articles in Punch magazine and The New Yorker, where he earned recognition for his witty and insightful pieces. He served as the editor of Punch magazine for nearly a decade, from 1978 to 1987, during which he revitalized and modernized the renowned humor magazine.

Aside from his writing, Coren was a famous personality on British radio, frequently appearing on The News Quiz, a popular BBC radio program. He also made regular appearances on Call My Bluff, a BBC TV game show. In 1973, Coren succeeded Monty Python member John Cleese as the Rector of the University of St. Andrews, an honor that highlighted his intellectual prowess.
