Gene Hatcher

Gene Hatcher was a legendary American boxer who made his name as the former WBA Light Welterweight Champion. Born on July 14, 1959, in Dallas, Texas, Hatcher grew up surrounded by a family of boxing enthusiasts, and early on in life, it became clear that he too had a natural talent for the sport.

Hatcher's career as a professional boxer took off in the late 1970s when he won the U.S. Amateur Championship. He later became the WBA Light Welterweight Champion by beating Johnny Bumphus in a 15-round decision in 1980. Shortly after, Hatcher made the first defense of his title against Ubaldo Sacco and went on to defend his championship nine times until he was ultimately defeated in 1984.
