George Gaylord Simpson

George Gaylord Simpson was an American paleontologist who was born on June 16th, 1902, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a noteworthy figure in the world of paleontology, having made significant contributions to the field during his lifetime. Simpson is best known for his work on the Modern Synthesis, which helped establish a widely-accepted account of evolution.

Simpson began his academic career by publishing papers on fossils and their taxonomy. He earned his bachelor's degree in geology from the University of Arizona in 1926. After completing his undergraduate studies, he went on to pursue his Ph.D. at Yale University, where he worked under the supervision of the renowned evolutionary biologist, G.G. Simpson.

Throughout his career, Simpson held various academic positions at prestigious institutions, including a position as a curator at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. In 1945, he became the Curator of the Department of Geology and Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History, where he stayed until 1959.
