About Gilda Radner
Gilda Radner was a talented American comedian and actress who brought joy to millions through her work on stage, television and film. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 28th, 1946, Gilda was the daughter of Henrietta and Herman Radner. Her father owned a hotel in the Catskills, where many famous comedians would perform, and it was there that Gilda developed her love for comedy and humor.
After graduating from the University of Michigan, Gilda moved to Toronto, Canada, to join The Second City comedy troupe. It was there that she honed her comedic skills and started to make a name for herself in the industry.
In 1975, Gilda became a cast member of the hit TV show Saturday Night Live, where she quickly became a fan favorite thanks to her hilarious characters such as Roseanne Roseannadanna and Baba Wawa. She won an Emmy Award for Best Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program for her work on the show.
Gilda was known for her kind and generous personality, and her love for animals and philanthropic causes. She married guitarist G.E. Smith in 1980, and although their marriage only lasted for two years, they remained good friends. In 1984, Gilda married actor Gene Wilder, and they remained together until her death in 1989.
Before becoming famous, Gilda faced a number of personal and professional challenges. She struggled with weight issues and eating disorders, and also battled with drug addiction. However, she found solace in her friendships and her love for comedy, and continued to work hard to achieve her dreams.
