Goose Tatum

Goose Tatum was an American basketball player and comedian who gained fame as a star of the Harlem Globetrotters and as the creator of his own comedic basketball teams, such as Goose Tatum's Harlem Clowns. He was born on May 31, 1921, in El Dorado, Arkansas, and grew up in a large family with nine siblings.

Tatum's basketball career began in the Negro Leagues, where he played alongside teammate Satchel Paige. However, before his basketball career took off, he served in World War II, primarily as an entertainer for the troops. After the war, Tatum joined the Harlem Globetrotters and quickly became one of their most popular players, known for his comedic antics and showmanship on the court.

Despite having only played in satirical basketball leagues, Tatum was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011, a testament to his impact on the sport. He is credited with inventing the hook shot, which became the signature shot of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
