Harry Browne: The Libertarian Presidential Candidate and Financial Guru

Harry Browne was a prominent American politician, two-time Libertarian Party presidential candidate, and a well-known financial advisor. His contribution to the investment field, especially the development of the permanent portfolio investment model, earned him recognition worldwide.

Born in New York City on June 17, 1933, Harry was raised primarily in Los Angeles, California. He received his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and then joined the US Army as a cryptographer.

After serving in the military, Harry worked as an advertising executive. He became the editor of Freedom Magazine, which played a crucial role in shaping his political ideology. Later on, he transitioned to become a successful financial advisor and wrote extensively on financial topics. His finance-themed publications include "Inflation-Proofing Your Investments" and "Fail-Safe Investing: Lifelong Financial Security in 30 Minutes."

With his dedication to libertarianism, Harry ran for president twice under the Libertarian Party banner, in 1996 and 2000. Although he faced insurmountable barriers, including the exclusion from the presidential debates and limited media exposure, his charisma and radical policy proposals drew nationwide attention. He remained an influential voice in the political landscape until his passing in March 2006 from Lou Gehrig's disease.

Following Harry's death, Ron Paul eulogized him as a "great advocate of freedom" and one of the most principled politicians he had ever met. Harry was a man with values and integrity, who never stopped fighting for what he believed in.
