James Shigeta

James Shigeta was an American actor and singer of Japanese descent. He is best known for his role in the 1961 movie version of the Broadway musical Flower Drum Song, which earned him a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Perry Mason, The Rockford Files, and Murder, She Wrote.

Born on June 17, 1929, in Honolulu, Hawaii, James Shigeta was the son of Japanese immigrants. He attended New York University, where he studied theater. After completing his studies, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War.
