Kannadasan, born as A. L. Muthiah is a renowned Indian composer who is well known for his outstanding contributions in the field of Tamil cinema. A multitalented individual, Kannadasan was a poet, lyricist, novelist, and essayist. He was born on June 24, 1927, in Sirukudalpatti, Tamil Nadu, India.

Kannadasan began his career by writing poems and went on to publish over 5,000 poems and numerous novels, religious-themed essays, and works of dramatic literature. He also penned lyrics for thousands of songs featured in Tamil films during his career. He is perhaps best remembered for his essay on Hinduism titled "Arthamulla Indhumatham."

Kannadasan was deeply inspired to write poetry after reading an important Hindu mystical text known as the Thiruppavai. His decision to become a writer accompanied his conversion from atheism to Hinduism. He was known for his creativity and had a unique style in his writing.
