Roberto Ivens is a renowned Portuguese explorer credited with mapping out Africa's interior, particularly spending a considerable amount of time studying the land and people of Mozambique and Angola. Born on November 12, 1850, in the coastal city of Leixões, Portugal, Ivens grew up in a family of noble origin and was the grandson of William Ivens, who was awarded a Coat of Arms by King George III.
