About Stanley Greene
American photojournalist and photographer who is known for his coverage of the conflict in Chechnya in 1994 which was compiled into the book Open Wound. He is also known for having co-founded the NOOR Agency in 2007 which helped launch the career of several other important photographers and photo journalists.
Before Fame
He received his first camera from his parents when he was 11 years old. He started his career as a painter but then attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and the San Francisco Art Institute where he trained as a photographer. He started his career as a photojournalist in 1989 after taking an iconic shot of the Berlin Wall.
Trivia
He has taken photos of several major world events including the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrine and the Gulf Coast in 2005.
Family Life
He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to two parents who were actors. His father belonged to the Harlem Renaissance movement.
Associated With
He was trapped and almost killed on assignment for Agence Vu in October of 1993 when he was photographing the White House in Moscow when the stand-off between President Boris Yeltsin and the parliament occurred.
