Martin Ginsburg: American Lawyer, Tax Law Specialist, and Academic Extraordinaire

Martin Ginsburg was an American Lawyer who made a name for himself through his specialization in tax law. Born on June 10, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York City, he had a passion for law from an early age. His parents, Morris and Evelyn Ginsburg, were Jewish immigrants from Russia who instilled in him a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Martin's education began in his hometown where he attended James Madison High School before proceeding to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. There, he pursued a degree in Industrial and Labor Relations, and he graduated from Cornell in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following his undergraduate studies, he obtained a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1958.

Martin Ginsburg's career spanned over five decades, and he held several prestigious positions in various institutions. He began his law career in the Office of the Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service. Later, he worked for Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson law firm, where he became a partner in 1973. He left the firm to teach at both Georgetown University Law Center, where he became a professor of law in 1980, and Columbia Law School, where he was a visiting professor of law in 1987.

Ginsburg is best known for his marriage to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who became a Supreme Court Justice in 1993. He fully supported his wife's career and was a devoted advocate for gender equality. Ginsburg co-authored a law school textbook on taxation, and his work earned him several accolades. He was also honored with the William Simon Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Teaching Excellence by the Federalist Society in 2009.
